Mukluk! #12 - Hello everyone. It's been some time since I updated and since it's break time for me again, I thought I'm due. Not much happened since I last updated. I've been pretty much focused on school. Exams were okay. It was a pain trying to study for them though. I simply had no motivation to buckle down in a quiet room and study. I would be sitting in the second living room where I usually study, but I'd find myself walking to the main living room and watching television. It was simply the most inefficient way to study for exams.
Speaking of television and inefficient, I'll start off with inefficient. Nice segway there, huh? Anyway, as many of you who live in the Vancouver area, we've had quite a funky weather these past 2 months. First, you had rain in most of November. Then on the last week of November, we had that crazy snow storm. Then there was that wind storm in December. The most annoying of these three was the snow. Trying to get to school by bus was simply inefficient. For the Tuesday after the snow, I waited for more than 30 mins. (almost an hour) for a bus outside in the cold. Now I consider myself a very patient person, but after freezing my ass off I just gave up and went back home. I hoped to get a ride from my sister, but it turns out she called in sick from her work. So, the RAVmobile(yup, that's the official name) was available. Driving in this "crossover" vehicle was nice, especially in the snow. I felt like I can take on any terrain. Now, I know I sound like a paid spokeperson for Toyota, but damn this car is nice. For any of you who is considering a new car that can handle some work, but still fuel efficient, consider the Toyota RAV4. Anyway, in addition to the crazy weather, would it be safe to speculate that it's due to global warming. Seriously though. Think about it. If you don't see the connection, I suggest you first watch the movie An Inconvenient Truth and then The Day After Tomorrow.
And speaking of television, this season is starting off in a good start. There are many new good shows, such as Heroes, The Class, and 30 Rock, and it's about to get much better when 24 comes back. I mean who doesn't like Jack Bauer? Here's a little fact about Jack Bauer: Jack Bauer played Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and won! Anyway, the best new show I'm currently hooked on is Heroes. Now I admit it does have some flaws, like the very slow storytelling, but the premise and how the events develop just keeps me hooked. Plus, one of the hero is Asian and he can bend space and time. Now that's awesome. For those who are interested in catching up, Heroes is on hiatus until January 22, so there is plenty of time to download the 11 episodes so far and watch them.
Anyway, with Christmas fast approaching (I'm not going for the whole politically correct here. Christmas is Christmas, damn it!) there are many less fortunate people out there who needs your help. I usually donate when I can even if it's not Christmas, but I have yet to donate my share for this time. My lack of responsibility doesn't absolve you from the fact that you should give. And so, like my headline says, give it on up to Homelessville and donate to you local charities. If everyone can give a little, the world would be a better place. Anyway, I'll leave you with the SNL skit with Justin Timberlake that inspired this update's headline. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
Mukluk! #11 - Hey everyone. It has been some time since I updated. I'm guessing at least 2 weeks. Anyway, I've been quite busy since the last update. I worked on my resume to apply to Rogers Video, but I haven't got to applying at the different branches just yet. Why, you might ask? Well, I'm not sure either. My resume is all done and printed, but I guess I'm somewhat discouraged by Best Buy. Now, I know I shouldn't, but I'm also thinking about school. With it fast approaching, could I really juggle work and study at the same time? I mean, I'm taking 4 courses for the upcoming term. That may not be many for some, but 3 of those courses are Psychology, so I'm probably going to need more time for reading, writing essays, and researching. Plus, I originally needed a job to buy a notebook computer, but with the money I've been getting from family and friends of the family for my recent birthday, I have enough in savings to buy one with some extra to spare. I think I'm going to let the issue of getting a job settle on the side for now. I should really focus on my study first. Anyway, I went off on a tangeant there. I also worked on materials for my volunteer job at CARS BC. I wrote down some ideas for the organization and also worked on some statistic research. Fun stuff, eh? Actually, I don't mind that kind of work. You actually find and learn some interesting things.
Anyway, my mom also came back from the Philippines. Some of you who are reading this might know the reason for her abscence; it's not something that you share, but if you're interested and I know you, I might tell you. Anyway, she came back and on the same day she came back, we went to the Richmond Auto Mall. That's my heaven on Earth, since I'm really into automobiles. I mean, just look at my name. Anyway, my mom really wanted to trade-in our van, the Sienna. It's at least 7 years old, so break downs are possible. Plus, its value is getting low. So, we decided to trade it in for ...... drum roll please ...... the 2006 RAV 4. In the words of Paris Hilton, that's hot. It looks just like the pictures, but without the V6 badge on the grill. We only opted for the 4 cylinder because of gas prices. So far, I've been driving it for a few days now around Richmond, while I drive my mom around for errands. And so far, the gas mileage has been wonderful. I've driven about 100+ km and I've only used up a quarter of the gas tank. Aside from the practicality of the vehicle, the styling inside and out are awesome. The outside is great. It has awesome lines, allow wheels, and it's very funky looking. Inside, the features are just wow! Comfy seats, nice stereo with built-in 6 CD changer, an auxillary jack for your MP3 players, clever storage spaces in the back, sunroof, and other awesomenessess! As you can see, I'm quite ecstatic about this vehicle. Bar none, it's the best vehicle I've driven.
Anyway, that's all for today's update. If you haven't greeted me a happy birthday, you're on my black list! Just kidding. No harm done. I don't have a black list just yet. Anyway, until next time.
Mukluk! #10 - Hey everyone. Time for another update. It seems like everyone who wanted to see The Couve has seen it. But if you're reading this and want to see it, just refer to the previous post (Mukluk! #9). Anyway, things have been so-so since my last update. I'm still trying to look for a job. Best Buy never did call me back. I tried doing a follow-up call with the guy who interviewed me, but it's hard to get ahold of him. I don't want to just leave a message with a customer service rep. because the message might not get to him or he might just dimiss the message. I'll try again tomorrow. If I still don't get ahold of him by Friday, then I'll just give up and try applying at Rogers Video or HMV. I think I'm not getting hired because they think I might not stay long with them, considering I'm a student and school starting just 2 months away. I hope that's not the case.
I'm also doing volunteer. I had a first meeting with the CARS BC marketing committee yesterday. It was okay. Things are starting off slowly, but I expected that sort of thing. I'm also going to help a friend from the film course I took. I'm looking forward to helping her out and get involved again with film production.
Anyway, as you can see from this post's title, it's about Trendspotting. I surf the web and watch TV a lot and I see and read so many new cool things. So I thought I'd share some of these things with you.
1. Pizza in Cone Online, it's not that new. But I just saw this last night while I was watching CNN's What's Next feature. It's pizza in a cone. Basically you get pizza toppings with the crust in the shape of an ice cream cone. This is just the smartest thing ever. It makes a pizza slice even more portable. So far, it's only available in very few places around the world (ie. Korea, Italy, & New York). However, I expect this to catch on. I'm not surprised if you see this at UBC soon.
2. Hard Gay My sister told me about this. It's a Japanese show that features this guy who acts gay and wears tight leather vest, shorts, and a hat. Basically, he looks very S&M. I read in the comments that he's not really gay; he just acts one. Anyway, every episode he has a mission. The most recent one I saw was when Hard Gay helped a guy to confess his feeling to a girl he likes. It's just hilarious. Trust me. And he always shouts, "HOOOOOOO!" You'll see. You can watch the episodes at Youtube. Here's the link. Enjoy.
3. Bottle Cap Tripod This one's pretty innovative. Ever been on an outing with your friends at a restaurant or a beach and you need to take a picture, but that available flat surface is too low or nonexistent for your digital camera? Well, just use your typical water bottle as a tripod. And, you don't need to ask the waiter to take the picture. This may not be that cool for some, but I find it to be clever.
Here's a link to some websites I visit often and read up on things:
Notebook Review - A great website with forums for the latest things on notebooks. Engadget - An awesome site for upcoming and conceptual technology. Cool Hunting - The name is self-explanatory. 'boards - A website magazine on commercial production. Create Blog - A resource site for everything blog and it's free.
Anyway, this is one long post. I haven't done one of these in a while. I hope you find the links useful and I have enriched your life in some way. That's all for now. Enjoy.
SOUNDS: Usher - Confessions Album status: apprehensive.
Mukluk! #9 - Hello everyone. Time for another update. I guess I kept myself quite busy since the last update. I've changed the site a bit. There is a new banner now and there is also Curious George in the background. What do you guys think? Anyway, I also signed up for a volunteer position in a non-profit organization called CARS BC. What they do is promote car safety across schools in BC, so it's a very good cause. I'm volunteering there as member of their marketing committee. We haven't really done much, but we're going to have our very first meeting soon.
Aside from volunteer work, I have also applied at Best Buy here in Richmond. I just had my second interview yesterday with one of the managers. I think it went okay. The manager told me that they will call me back before 6pm today and it's currently about to be 3:30pm, so I'm starting to worry if they will call me back at all. Do you guys have any advice on follow-up calls? When and should I even do one?
Anyway, those are the two major things I did since the last update. I also went to see some movies in the theatres and rented some also. I've been watching many Korean movies at home lately, but most of them have been romantic movies. Yeah, I know. It's lame. But since we're on the topic of lame, I'll leave you guys with the movie I made for Film 233 at UBC: The Couve. I managed to upload it on YouTube and you can now see it here. That's all for now and enjoy.
Premise: The story takes place in Vancouver or The Couve and it focuses on a teenager named Byron. All the men in his family are ninjas. However, ninjas are discriminated against in the city and many people don't like them. One of these people is the villain, Steve, who killed Bryon's brother. When Byron confronts Steve about his brother's murder, Byron decides to kick Steve in the crotch. As payback, Steve decides to kidnap Bryon's girlfriend, Vanessa. Byron, with the help of his friend, Johnny, must now rescue Vanessa.
Hello. Summer school is now over, so I'm back for an update. As some of you may know, I took FILM 233(Introduction to Film Production). It was an awesome class. I had fun making my movie and meeting some great people. Originally, I wanted to be an editor cause I have experience in editing while I was in high school. But fortunately, I was granted the job of being a director. This all came about when my pitch for a short movie (about 5 mins.)was picked. I was inspired by seeing this internet mini-series called The 'Bu, which is a spoof of the many teen dramas on TV (ie. The O.C.). I thought of making a local version of it and I came up with The Couve. The title is actually short for Vancouver; you just have to take off the van and the r and you get couve. Anyway, since I intend for my movie to be a spoof, it has a lot of silliness involved. Even the story itself is preposterous, but funny. Overall, it turned out great. The last day of class had the screenings of all the groups' movies. My group showed our movie first and everyone seem to have liked it. They laughed and clapped, so it was great.
The Story The story is about a ninja teenager named Byron. All the men in Byron's family are ninjas. However, ninjas are discriminated against and not many people like them. One of these people is the villain of the story, Steve. He killed Bryon's brother. When Byron confronts Steve about this, Byron decides to kick Steve in the crotch. As payback, Steve decides to kidnap Bryon's girlfriend, Vanessa. Byron, with the help of his friend, Johnny, goes and rescues Vanessa. But as they leave Steve's compound, Vanessa gets shot in the back by Steve. Byron then says, "It's not over yet." And that's the end.
Future Episodes? Anyway, that's the pilot episode of The Couve. I actually have ideas for future episodes that involve time travel and a gang of girl assassins in TNA outfits with an Aritzia store as their headquarters. I'm still thinking of things that is quintessential Vancouver to incorporate. Perhaps smoking marijuana or something. Who knows. The only problem is I need producers to fund any future projects. So if any of you guys and girls are interested, give me a shout.
Anyway, that's all for now. Before I go, I also have made some DVD copies of The Couve which has the movie and the songs used in the movie. If anyone is interested, give me a message. I may be able to get you a copy. Anyway, until next time and enjoy the summer.
